The government of Georgia is once again trying to bring gaming business into the legal framework. Giorgi Kvirikashvili and Mamuka Bakhtadze did not succeed in developing a strict taxation mechanism and restricting advertising, now it's Irakli Gharibashvili's turn. Unlike the previous prime ministers, Gharibashvili turned out to be more radical. According to the government's decision, in the first stage, along with increasing the tax for online casinos and banning advertising, it is planned to raise the age limit of users to 25 years. The second stage will be the toughest for gaming business, Gharibashvili wants to completely ban online casinos.
This announcement, made at the Monday meeting of the government, was unexpected for the sector. Giorgi Mamulaishvili, head of the administration of the Georgian Gaming Business Association, tells us that the government of Georgia has not had any communication with the business regarding the mentioned changes. He calls Gharibashvili's decision rigid and says that the ban is not a solution.
"Given that the gaming sector in Georgia is effectively regulated and transparent, the Prime Minister's initiative was unexpected. Everyone can find information on any indicators of gambling companies. Although we actively cooperate with our regulators, Random Systems, which is a representative of the Revenue Service, we have not had any communication on this matter. However, we are investigating why the government took such a tough decision in light of the fact that most of the developed countries of the world have come to the idea that the gambling business should be loyal and not prohibited, because the sale allows you to control the business. The legislation of Georgia is sophisticated and tailored to both state and business interests. The regulations are sharply written, especially after the changes made in the last two years, during which the law of gambling and profitable games was completely changed", Giorgi Mamulaishvili says.
